Indonesia Phinisi Yacht Charter

**An Indonesia phinisi yacht charter is the exclusive, whole-boat hire of a crewed traditional two-masted wooden sailing yacht for a private group across any Indonesian cruising ground. All-inclusive weekly rates run roughly US$77,000–US$85,000 for boutique vessels up to around US$200,000 for superyacht-class phinisi, as of 2026 and subject to change.**

You book the entire vessel, not a cabin. That means your family, dive buddies or corporate group has the yacht, the crew and the itinerary to yourselves for the days you sail. Nusantara Schooners arranges these buyouts across Komodo, Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea, Alor and Cenderawasih Bay, with every charter operated by Komodo Luxury, an award-winning operator founded in Labuan Bajo in 2015.

What does a full-boat phinisi charter actually include?

The word “phinisi” describes a rig, not a hull. According to UNESCO, which in 2017 inscribed “The Art of Boatbuilding in South Sulawesi” on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the term refers to a type of two-masted rigging carrying seven to eight sails, a tradition centred on the villages of Ara and Tana Beru and historically sailed by Bugis and Makassarese seafarers. The vessels chartered today are hand-crafted wooden yachts, often ironwood and teak, renovated for luxury crewed charter.

A private charter is genuinely all-inclusive. Yacht Style reports that Indonesian charter prices are generally all-inclusive, without the separate tax, fuel and provisioning charges that can add about 50 percent to a Mediterranean or Caribbean charter. That single fact is why a headline weekly rate here means far more than the same number elsewhere.

A typical exclusive-use week covers:

  • The whole vessel with ensuite staterooms for your group only
  • Full crew: captain, cruise director, chef, deckhands and, on dive boats, dive guides
  • All meals, soft drinks and most beverages aboard
  • Fuel, port fees and inter-island cruising for your itinerary
  • Water toys and tenders: zodiac and dive tenders, kayaks, SUPs, snorkel kit
  • On dive vessels: compressor, nitrox where fitted, tanks and weights
  • Safety systems: life rafts, EPIRB, satellite phone, fire suppression

Excluded, as a rule, are international flights, dive certification, premium wines, spa therapists and national-park conservation fees, which vary by region and season.

Which fleet tier and which sea? Use this selector

Match your group size, budget and target region to a tier. Rates are weekly, all-inclusive, per vessel, as of 2026 and subject to change.

Fleet tier Guests / staterooms Indicative weekly rate Best-fit regions Prime season
Boutique phinisi 8–12 / 4–6 ~US$77,000–US$85,000 Komodo, Alor Komodo May–Sep; Alor Jul–Nov
Premium expedition 12–14 / 6–7 ~US$85,000–US$130,000 Raja Ampat, Banda Sea Raja Ampat Oct–Apr; Banda Sea Sep–Nov
Superyacht-class up to 14 / 7 ~US$150,000–US$200,000 Any cruising ground Region-dependent

For context on the top of the market, Boat International describes Lamima as “Asia’s largest luxury phinisi-style yacht,” built in Indonesia with seven cabins for up to 14 guests; Yacht Style notes Lamima charters via central agent EYOS Expeditions at around US$200,000 per week. Boatbookings, separately, lists leading Indonesian phinisi charter yachts at roughly US$77,000–US$85,000 per week, and from US$84,000 depending on the yacht. A 45-metre custom phinisi with seven staterooms and 17 crew is a real reference point for what superyacht-class specs look like at the top tier.

We deliberately quote in USD. No official exchange rate appears in these sources, so any rupiah figure would be a calculated estimate rather than a sourced fact, and we would rather give you accurate dollars than an invented IDR number.

Where can you sail, and when?

Confirmed phinisi cruising regions include Komodo, Raja Ampat and the Banda Sea, or Spice Islands. Alor and Cenderawasih Bay are legitimate grounds we know well from years of routing, and we present them as expert knowledge rather than a sourced claim. Season windows below are route guidance, not guarantees, and shift with weather.

Region Gateway port Best months Signature sites
Komodo Labuan Bajo (Flores) May–September Padar, Pink Beach, Rinca, Kanawa
Raja Ampat Sorong October–April Wayag, Piaynemo, Misool, Dampier Strait
Banda Sea Ambon September–November Banda Neira, Run island, nutmeg history
Alor July–November Pantar Strait, Pura island
Cenderawasih Bay Manokwari / Nabire Strong May–October Whale sharks at bagan platforms

Labuan Bajo is the recognised gateway for Komodo and doubles as our operating hub. Cenderawasih Bay is unusual: whale sharks are encountered year-round at the bagan fishing platforms, with the strongest months roughly May to October.

Once you pick a region and month, our regional guides go far deeper. See the [Komodo phinisi charter](/komodo-phinisi-charter/), [Raja Ampat phinisi charter](/raja-ampat-phinisi-charter/) and [Banda Sea phinisi charter](/banda-sea-phinisi-charter/) pages for itinerary detail.

How does booking a private charter work?

  1. Send your brief. Message us your dates, group size, target region and budget tier via WhatsApp or the quote form. If you are still choosing a sea, our [phinisi cruise booking](/phinisi-cruise-booking/) guide helps you decide.
  2. Get a matched shortlist. Within about 24 hours the Komodo Luxury reservations team returns two or three available vessels with real specs, deck plans and dated all-inclusive pricing.
  3. Hold your yacht. Confirm your pick and secure the dates with a deposit. Availability in peak windows, Komodo in July or Raja Ampat over the year-end, moves fast.
  4. Design the route. Work with the cruise director to shape a day-by-day itinerary around diving, culture, hiking or pure rest.
  5. Board and sail. Meet the crew at the gateway port. Provisioning, fuel and port fees are already handled under the all-inclusive model.

Why book through Komodo Luxury?

Charters on this site are operated by Komodo Luxury, a real award-winning operator founded in 2015 in Labuan Bajo, with bookings handled directly by its reservations team. You deal with the people who run the boats, not an anonymous listing wall. Nusantara Schooners is the national phinisi atlas published by Juara Holding Group; we map the whole archipelago so you charter the right yacht in the right sea in the right month.

A note on newbuilds: Yacht Style’s 2026 coverage records Indonesia “welcoming the next wave of phinisis,” including future deliveries such as the 48-metre Bhavana, so the fleet you choose from keeps growing.
